The Founder
After two decades working behind-the-scenes in senior product development and marketing roles for global beauty and home fragrance brands including Elemis, Shiseido and Neom Organics, founder, Vicky Bellerby, had a lightbulb moment to create MIXMY – an innovative new home fragrance concept empowering you to mix and match PRIMARY fragrances together to create multiple ‘Scent Destination™’ combinations uniquely special to you and your space. No rules or limitations, just the ability to create unforgettable aromas that evoke a feeling, a memory, a location, and have the power to transport you over and over again.
‘‘ I’m obsessed with scented candles and always have one burning in the background. I love to burn floral or citrus scents during the day; warm and smoky scents in the evening; and like most of us, I burn something seasonal at Christmas. This love for home fragrance meant I had a build-up of forgotten, half-burnt candles stored away in a cupboard and not used until they suited the time of year again or I had a yearning for a particular scent.
It felt like such a waste of amazing fragrances and frustrating because I didn’t want to keep purchasing on the basis of being bored and wanting a new smell. Suddenly I was excited by the idea of ‘what if?’. What if I could design a core collection of beautifully scented signature candles that were intended to combine with each other to create entirely new fragrances, meaning multiple scent possibilities and no more waste?
THE JOURNEY
That was back in 2018. I then spent the next year working very closely with world-class perfumers to create the initial collection of five fine fragrances, which was no easy task as the fragrances needed to smell incredible on their own, but transform when combined with each other.
Once I’d approved the fragrances, we spent the next year conducting countless burn trials to determine the perfect wick and ideal fragrance concentration for each candle (each one is different). Due to the complexity of each candle recipe needing to combine beautifully alongside each other (whilst not overpowering!), every candle has been meticulously formulated to guarantee the very best quality diffusion to really bring the ingredients alive. The result is a debut collection of five Primary Scented Candles which work so much harder than most, as they smell incredible in their own right, but transform when combined with each other.
The aesthetic was also really important to me and instead of the traditional cylindrical vessel, I spent three and a half years designing and producing a heavy, tactile, bespoke glass cube which allows the collection to sit perfectly side-by-side, so, whether you place in a row on a mantelpiece or lined up along a dinner table, they create a truly stunning design statement.
Each candle has been hand-poured in the UK using 100% natural vegetable wax, and I’m over the moon that I’ve been able to offer refills so the glass can be reused time and time again. Not only that, the refills are presented in packaging we’ve actually grown! The mycelium (the root-like structure of mushrooms) refill holders are sustainable and completely home-compostable – again testament to my no–waste belief.
Ultimately, MIXMY has been created to become your palette of carefully curated primary home fragrances, to be used in the same way you combine primary colours to create new colours.
