WHAT DO MIXMY PRIMARY CANDLES REALLY SMELL LIKE?

When buying online, it can be difficult to purchase home fragrance you’ve never smelt before. Yes, you can read the fragrance description and fragrance composition, but it’s not easy to image how all of the notes combine by simply reading a list of ingredients.

Our Primary Candles are the cornerstone of the MIXMY concept. Let me help you get to know them by transporting you to a location or scenario to help you image each fragrance. Read each description, then close your eyes and imagine the scent.

As there are just five Primary Candles in the MIXMY collection, all of which have been created to combine with each, you’re not bombarded with too much choice so we’ve made the decision process so much easier!

You can find the official Primary Candle fragrance descriptions and fragrance compositions on each of the product pages.

1. SOFT / FLORAL

This is a beautifully soft, powdery fragrance that gradually builds in intensity until it becomes an intoxicating floral bloom.
Picture yourself in the height of summer, standing among blooms of fragrant white flowers in a serene cottage garden as a gentle summer haze lingers over the petals.

2. BERRY / GREEN

This is a dry fruity, woody fragrance with hints of citrus. It’s not sweet at all.
Imagine autumn hedgerows laden with blackberries, and the green earthy scent you get from freshly cut hedge trimmings. You also get notes of tangy blackcurrants along with a hint of sharp citrus, and a very subtle nod to rose in the background.

3. CITRUS / OCEANIC

I’m going to use the word ‘sparkling’ to describe this scent.
Image the Mediterranean sun warming the skins of juicy citrus fruits such as ruby pomelo, mandarin and lemon, and the sun glinting off the sea in the distance. Breathe deeply and you get a fir needle and salty freshness coming through.

4. SMOOTH / AMBERY

This is a very seductive, cologne-like fragrance, with a rich blend of sweet spices, warming woods and smoky incense. Mellowed with amber and a hint of creamy vanilla.
For this one, I’m transporting you to Morocco or the Middle East and the heady aromas of a chaotic souk, where shards of sunlight illuminate the mounds of colourful spices and freshly baked goods, all there to entice and immerse the senses.

5. WOOD / SMOULDER

I’m going to use Alice du Parcq’s (Beauty & Fragrance Journalist) description of this fragrance as she nailed it perfectly! [Alice du Parcq’s Instagram review  MIXMY features at 10.20mins left]
It’s like a leather jacket that your teenage crush puts over your shoulders when you’re watching bonfire night together. It’s got this dark, intriguing appeal to it. Very smouldery, very smoky, yet there’s a beautiful, comforting mellow creaminess to it that wraps you up in a hug.

Scented candles should be burned, not saved for best. This is because the fragrance in scented candles isn’t static - it evolves and degrades over time due to natural processes, even when the candle is not lit, so over time, this leads to a gradual loss of scent intensity.

The beauty of a MIXMY candle is in the experience, not its shelf life… so get burning!

Do you burn or save for best?
When creating MIXMY, combinable fragrances were at the top of my list as I wanted MIXMY fragrances to work all year round.
So rather than the lighter, fresh fruity and floral notes being mainly limited to the warmer Spring/Summer months; and the heavier spicy and woody notes dominating the Autumn/Winter months; MIXMY fragrances have been created to be used alone and smell incredible, but they can also be paired with each other to create entirely new fragrances, meaning both the lighter and the heavier fragrances can be used year round, and allows you to really personalise and tailor-make your home fragrance experience.

Do you have out-of-season home fragrances sat waiting for their season to come round again?

What’s the most memorable gift you’ve ever received?
Early Spring is the time to open up the garden. Our walled terraced garden is very much an extension of our home, allowing us to throw open the doors and move the entertaining outside.

Power-washing the paving is my love-hate Spring job. I hate doing it, but I love the way it transforms the outdoor space… although it’s not been too bad this year as I did a second power-wash at the end of the Summer.

A few years ago, I had some covers made for the garden furniture and the outdoor kitchen - I was sick of the normal outdoor covers blowing off and not being 100% waterproof, so I had covers made using robust, waterproof yachting fabric, and they’ve been brilliant… but it’s time they’re packed away and the furniture comes out of hibernation. Let the outdoor living commence!
