When buying online, it can be difficult to purchase home fragrance you’ve never smelt before. Yes, you can read the fragrance description and fragrance composition, but it’s not easy to image how all of the notes combine by simply reading a list of ingredients.

Our Primary Candles are the cornerstone of the MIXMY concept. Let me help you get to know them by transporting you to a location or scenario to help you image each fragrance. Read each description, then close your eyes and imagine the scent.

As there are just five Primary Candles in the MIXMY collection, all of which have been created to combine with each, you’re not bombarded with too much choice so we’ve made the decision process so much easier!

You can find the official Primary Candle fragrance descriptions and fragrance compositions on each of the product pages.

This is a beautifully soft, powdery fragrance that gradually builds in intensity until it becomes an intoxicating floral bloom.
Picture yourself in the height of summer, standing among blooms of fragrant white flowers in a serene cottage garden as a gentle summer haze lingers over the petals.

This is a dry fruity, woody fragrance with hints of citrus. It’s not sweet at all.
Imagine autumn hedgerows laden with blackberries, and the green earthy scent you get from freshly cut hedge trimmings. You also get notes of tangy blackcurrants along with a hint of sharp citrus, and a very subtle nod to rose in the background.

I’m going to use the word ‘sparkling’ to describe this scent.
Image the Mediterranean sun warming the skins of juicy citrus fruits such as ruby pomelo, mandarin and lemon, and the sun glinting off the sea in the distance. Breathe deeply and you get a fir needle and salty freshness coming through.

This is a very seductive, cologne-like fragrance, with a rich blend of sweet spices, warming woods and smoky incense. Mellowed with amber and a hint of creamy vanilla.
For this one, I’m transporting you to Morocco or the Middle East and the heady aromas of a chaotic souk, where shards of sunlight illuminate the mounds of colourful spices and freshly baked goods, all there to entice and immerse the senses.

I’m going to use Alice du Parcq’s (Beauty & Fragrance Journalist) description of this fragrance as she nailed it perfectly! [Alice du Parcq’s Instagram review  MIXMY features at 10.20mins left]
It’s like a leather jacket that your teenage crush puts over your shoulders when you’re watching bonfire night together. It’s got this dark, intriguing appeal to it. Very smouldery, very smoky, yet there’s a beautiful, comforting mellow creaminess to it that wraps you up in a hug.

Are you as over this cold, wet Spring weather as much as we are?!
Try combining 1. SOFT / FLORAL with 3. CITRUS / OCEANIC and let the delicate floral notes combine with the sun-soaked citrus and refreshing fir needle and sea salt accords to create the Scent Destination™ of #SunBathedMediterraneanTerrace.
We can’t guarantee to transport you in person, but close your eyes, take in the aroma and you’re there… on a sun-baked terrace beneath a cloudless azure sky as soft, floral notes linger on the gentle sea breeze.

Starting the day with 3. CITRUS / OCEANIC for a morning boost.
It’s also the perfect kitchen candle fragrance as the bright, refreshing scent replaces kitchen smells.
Change the mood by playing around with different pairs of MIXMY candles.
This evening, I’m adding 5. WOOD / SMOULDER to number 3 to create the beautifully mellow Scent Destination™ of #DuskOnTheAmalfiCoast.

I’m generally quite a private person, but as MIXMY grows, I feel I should step out from behind the brand (and out of my comfort zone 😬).
So I’m going to start by sharing a little about myself.

I’m Vicky, Founder of MIXMY.

I’ve spent my career specialising in product development and marketing for incredible beauty and home fragrance brands, including Elemis, Shiseido and NEOM Organics.

I went to Newcastle University to study Agri-Business Management & Marketing, and despite being a dairy farmer’s daughter, I chose to make a career out of anti-ageing cream rather than double cream!

My first product development role was for a global beauty brand based in Sydney, where I lived for a number of years. It was there I met my husband. We moved to London, and eventually North Yorkshire where we now live with our two children and three Jack Russells.

I can’t sit still. My idea of relaxation is doing, so on holiday it’s very rarely you’ll see me sat by a pool. I’ll take a ski holiday over a sun holiday any day.

My mum can make anything. When I was growing up, she liked to make clothes for my two sisters and I.

She liked to try out different techniques, so when I wasn’t sporting one of her batwing jumpers, I was often dressed in Victorian-style smocked dresses and Elizabethan ruffs 😱. The memory still haunts me 😂.

I’ve recently discovered Bahlsen Choco Leibniz Chunky Mint Chocolate Biscuits (a name that doesn’t roll off the tongue that easily!) - trust me, they are AMAZING!

To the amusement of those close to me, ‘I Am The One and Only’ by Chesney Hawkes will always get me on the dance floor.
